Again YMMV.I'm trying to set up a home ftp server so I can access my files from my smartphone from work. Again., in summary, unencrypted plain FTP was between 2 and 3 times faster than encrypted SFTP.

The comparisons are with Filezilla running over either FTP or SFTP. This was limited to Humax-PC performance, since (as above) I haven't yet got direct Humax-Humax ssh/sftp working. I also ran performance tests with and without SSH. In summary, direct ( betftpd/tnftp) connection was between two and three times faster than download/upload via Filezilla. I ran timings for a variety of configurations copying a. Much depends on the speed and reliability of the network, of course. Indirect copy via a third system certainly requires much less faffing around the choice of tools and techniques is almost limitless. I had to create an extra symbolic link root under media to get access to files outside "My Video" etc

Wget can certainly be used to make a copy directly from one machine to another. Although it hadn't been originally part of my thinking, it makes it easy to copy user-written code from one machine to another. Good Luck!Ĭlick to expand. This is a great combination, especially as it allows one to work outside the /media directory. From FileZilla, drag the files you want to the Windows drive letter & path of your target Humax (mapped in step 3 above) - Note: I was also able to drag and drop in the other direction as well. I recommend limiting the number of simultaneous transfers to one.ĥ. Install FileZilla FTP client, open a session to your source Humax. I already use FileZilla FTP client to move files on/off my Humax - have done for years when Windows stopped wanting to support CIFS - however, it does not support server to server transfer, but what it does support is dragging files/directories between the FileZilla client window, to Windows explorer (this is how I use it). Now, at this point, I expected to be able to drag and drop between the two, but it gave an error "not enough disk space" (which isn't true). I only have one Humax so tested it with a separate FTP server I run, mounted to a different drive letter. C:\Program Files\Ferro Software\FtpUse> ftpuse Z: 192.168.1.45 0000 /USER:humaxftp (maps drive Z:, my PIN is the default "0000" and my Huxax IP is 192.168.1.45)
